Securing your Probationary or Std. Certificate

Are you completing your 2-semester internship and are now ready for your STANDARD CERTIFICATE ?


Have you been offered a position and signed a teaching contract to begin your 2-semester internship and are now ready for your PROBATIONARY CERTIFICATE?

For either your Std. or Probationary Certificate, please follow these directions . . .

  1. Go to the SBEC website and open your SBEC account.
  2. Click on "Online Services for Educators" at the top of the SBEC homepage.
  3. Read the information about qualifications. Click "Apply for Certification."
  4. Read the affidavit and click "Yes". Then answer the next 2 questions honestly.
  5. Select ACT Houston (Alternative Certification) from the dropdown menu and enter the certification that you are seeking. If you are unsure of this, please check your Letter of Acceptance (written in green ink) to see what is written as your certification area. If you qualify for more than one area, you must select the certification in which you are presently teaching. Now click "Apply."
  6. On the next page - View remittance form and pay ($52 for Probationary -- $77 for Standard).
  7. You will see a line - click on Probationary or Standard.
  8. For PROBATIONARY - Be sure to view remittance fee for fingerprinting (pay the $52.25 fee online as well). Once you pay the fee online, you will be issued an email containing a FAST PASS document that will allow you to use the L-1 Solutions Company (Identix) service for fingerprinting. There is an additional $9.95 fee for scanning of prints.
  9. For STANDARD - Congratulations! You are a fully certified teacher!
